I buy a lot of food items that are not carried in the supermarkets or, if they are, are not reliable or not of good quality. Here are a few food websites that are fun to browse through and offer high-quality food items:
First on the list is www.neuskes.com, a conveyor of high-end pork products. I’ve bought their pepper-coated apple-smoked bacon for decades. I get five pounds at a time, as bacon freezes well. Their bone-in smoked pork chops are also on my list.
The fun’est website has to be www.zingermans.com. They offer EVOO, vinegars, breads, pastas, cheeses, and food baskets.
Speaking of EVOO, I received a gift subscription to www.freshpressedoliveoil.com many years ago and have been buying their olive oil ever since. Three bottles from a different world location every three months. Amazing freshness and taste.
For tea, try www.harney.com, which carries every tea on the planet.
For fresh spices, like peppercorn varietals and blends specially designed for salmon, Cajun dishes, and mashed potatoes, I’ve traded for years at www.thespicehouse.com and www.penzeys.com. Penzeys has a store in Falls Church.
I love Peppadew Piquant Peppers from South Africa, which add color and taste to pastas and salads.
The catchall for all this stuff is, of course, Amazon. It’s all there if you dig for it, but it’s more fun to explore specific sites. A final example: Try Crown Bourbon Barrel Aged Maple Syrup from www.crownmaple.com.
